I understand where you are coming from. My father in law was a frequent caravanner until he suffered a serious illness and died. Left the mother in law stranded as she too was a very keen caravanner. So we taught her and she caravanned on with a caravan bought at caravan salvage auction her own for many years. Now 82 .
So with that past experience in mind my good lady can hook up tow and set up on her own. We share the driving so as to keep her skill level up.
If I or we both reached a stage of not been able to handle the caravan then we would have my son tow the van to our regular spot and set up for us so we could continue. God I hope that is a very long way off but frankly we just don't know do we. Cheers.

If you are ever visiting the east coast of Scotland stop off at the caravan site at Carnoustie. The warden there gives everyone a hand to pitch whether you need it or not. I would like to think that most caravanners would willingly help out another who was having difficulty.

Caravan Wrecking Yards
Just been looking at the weather forecast for the next week or so, looks like its going to be a BITTERLY cold end to the week and weekend. So hope everyone has drained down, could be a sharpe frost.
Drained it down after the last trip just over a week ago, decided best policy was to drain down every time from now until spring it should keep it out of the caravan wrecking yards.

Elddis Caravan Salvage
I can't get under the bunks or even in the caravan at present so will just have to ask Lisa or someone to turn the heating on to the lowest setting to prevent a burst.
We drain down after every trip just as a force of habit now, I see the -5 degrees C temperature forecast for Friday and snow for the weekend. We are not going anywhere so bring it on. Will need some elddis caravan salvage parts ready for the new season though.
We probably won't get the snow. It can be six inches deep 5 miles up the road and we don't even see a flurry.

Just wondering - has anyone ever actually had a problem leaving water in the caravan pipes. With the caravans we had, we never drained them and never had a problem - so who has had a problem and where?
I asked this question at the storage yard, many don't drain down and don't appear to suffer problems, do they drain down caravans at dealers when you part ex I doubt it till its sold.
We're taking the van to Holy Island next week - it'll give the heating we rigged up with parts from caravan salvage yards a good test!
